Two kilometres from Saint-Jean-d'Angély, set in the countryside, Karen and Richard will welcome you to this lovely residence, with a charming independent house in the gardens, which was originally the bread oven house.
Newly renovated as a charming chambres d'hôtes/ bed and breakfast, each room has been tastefully decorated and each have the original stone walls. Each room is new and spacious with their own independent entrance and all rooms have a private shower room and wc, satellite television, armchairs and a kettle with tea making facilities.
The Four à Pain has its own private terrace with tables, chairs, sunloungers and parasols to relax in the tranquility of the garden. There is a private new swimming pool on the other side of the garden where you can take a dip and then sit in the shade under the cherry tree.
Approached by a private drive with electric gates, set in the lovely walled garden of this old maison maitre with lavender bushes lining the entrance, you will find safe and secure parking in the shade of the trees.
Breakfast of orange juice, tea/coffee/chocolate, croissants, home-made jam and butter, can be served on the private terrace, or in the main house dining room.
The river Boutonne is 200 meters from the back door, with plenty of fishing and lovely walks in the country.
For those guests who are house hunting or thinking of moving to France, Karen and Richard will gladly give them their advice and experience of the French legal system of purchasing a property. They have alot of experience and contacts having purchased property on three occasions and will help wherever possible.
Saint-Jean-d'Angély is at the center of the Charente- Maritime. It is only 5 minutes from the main A10 autoroute, junction 34, separating Nantes/Poitiers to Bordeaux. There is a lively market every Saturday, numerous cafes and restaurants and a large plan d'eau (water area) by the river with boating, fishing and kayaking.
To the West (45minutes) are the wonderful beaches of Royan, La Rochelle, Ile d'Oleron and Ile de Ré.To the East (45minutes) is the beautiful old town of Angouleme.To the South (20minutes) is Saintes with its numerous shops, the river and restaurants and (30minutes) is Cognac with its vineyards castles and old town.To the North (30minutes) is Niort, a lovely large old town, bustling with shops and restaurants and Futuroscope and Poitiers are a further 45 minutes.
